The latest iPhone rumor making the rounds is that Apple is prepping a new smartphone with a thinner screen that boosts image quality.
As reported by the Wall Street Journal, Apple is using something called in-cell technology, which adds touch sensors to the LCD so an extra touch-screen layer is unnecessary. The move could shrink the screen size by half a millimeter.
Sharp, Japan Display, and LG Display are all currently mass producing the screens for inclusion in the next iPhone, the Journal said.
The current iPhone 4S is 9.3mm or 0.37 inches thick, according to Apple's website.
Among the benefits of a slimmer screen is room for new or upgraded features, like a bigger battery. But as the Journal pointed out, the in-cell screens are harder to make, which could pose a problem with Apple selling tens of millions of iPhones.
